| The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) advises that Santa Cruz Processors, Brae’s River, St. Elizabeth is not authorized to process canned ackees in brine for distribution and sale. A recent surveillance inspection of the establishment revealed that the company was operating in contravention of the Processed Food Act.
A Notice of Detention was issued for seizure of the canned ackees however they were unlawfully removed from the establishment. These products are not coded or tested and the Bureau of Standards Jamaica cannot guarantee their wholesomeness.
It is, therefore, unsafe for the products to be consumed and illegal for them to be traded.
The Bureau of Standards Jamaica encourages the public, particularly retailers and hoteliers, to be on the alert when purchasing canned ackees in brine.
