The Standards Council of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Executive Director.
Assume responsibilities for the direction and management of the BSJ
Provide exemplary leadership and control for the operations of the organization in a culture of quality, innovation and accountability
Formulate policies, as a member of the Standards Council, for directing the activities of the organization
Develop major objectives, identify key result areas, plan strategies, and organize for the effective and harmonious management of the organization
Be sensitive to the needs and ensure the necessary resources are in place for the organization’s growth and accomplishment
Implement strategies to attract and retain competent staff and establish the BSJ nationally, regionally and internationally as a world class standards organization
Appraise performance and provide opportunity for employee’s growth and productivity
Establish the organization as a major contributor to the economic growth of Jamaica
Provide the government, public and private sector administrators with standards-related technology and advice for economic performance
Facilitate the development of required national standards to promote trade, safeguard the health and safety of consumers and be an active partner in the international standards development process
Postgraduate Degree in Applied or Natural Science from an accredited university
A PhD in scientific discipline would be a distinct asset
Training in Finance and General Management
Excellent oral and written communication; leadership; interpersonal, motivational, problem solving, and organizational skills
Ability to effectively lead a team of highly technical professionals
Superior critical and analytical thinking
Minimum of seven years' experience in a senior role in the successful management of a scientific or technical institution of a comparable size, or comparable experience
Proven experience in resource management, investment and budgetary control, nance management and project management
Proven experience of engendering a culture of engagement, collaboration and team work
Conversant with systems of Standardization, Metrology and Conformity Assessment
Working knowledge of Industrial Relations, Accreditation and Quality Systems
