Introduction to ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
COURSE DURATION: Sixteen hours delivered over two (2) days
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This two-day training will provide participants with an understanding of the purpose, role and benefits of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in their organizations.
The ISO 45001 based training course outlines the basics of occupational health and safety and provides a comprehensive overview of ISO 45001 requirements for an occupational health and safety management system (OH&S MS). By participating in this training course, you will have the opportunity to understand the different aspects of an OH&S MS based on ISO 45001, including the commitment from top management of an organization, worker participation, OH&S policy, operational planning and controls, emergency preparedness and response, performance evaluation, and continual improvement.
Participants will be made aware of how to identify hazards in the workplace, assess their risks and manage them in a systematic, performance-based process approach as provided in the standard.
Throughout the course participants will be given examples and problem-solving demonstrations as well as the opportunity to apply the knowledge imparted and skills learned to practical, real-life OH&S issues.
At the end of the training participants will acquire:
Increased awareness of the importance of having a structured health and safety management system for their company’s operations;
Knowledge of approaches and techniques to identify hazards and associated risks in their organizations;
Adequate knowledge of the elements and function of an occupational health and safety management system;
Increased competence to initiate, develop and implement an occupational health and safety management system based on the ISO 45001 standard.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To provide participants with the learning opportunity to increase their awareness and understanding of requirements of the ISO 45001 OH&S Standard.
Based on the requirements of ISO 45001 participants will learn:
What is process-based Occupational Health and Safety Management system
How to identify and assess occupational, health and safety hazards
How to develop policy, objectives and programme for OHS
How to identify and mange roles, responsibilities and resources
How to plan for and respond to emergencies
How to conduct an incident investigation to meet the requirements of the standard

Training Process:
1. Lectures — presentation of information on the subject matter in an engaging and exciting manner incorporating real life experience to demonstrate practical application.
2. Questions — you ask them; of the trainer and of each other. There is no such thing as a dumb question!
3. Case Study & Exercises — you participate in the process, apply the lessons taught and practice the skills learned.
Training Time:
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Training starts each day promptly at 9 a.m.
Morning coffee break approximately 10:30 a.m.
Lunch for 1 hour at 12 noon
Start afternoon session at 1 p.m.
Afternoon break approximately 2:30 p.m.
Day ends — 4:30 p.m
N.B.: Full attendance of all participants is required. A certificate of attendance or achievement will be issued within 30 days of training activity
