Client privacy is important to Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ).  Personal information shared with the BSJ via this website will be held confidential and safeguarded in accordance with strict standards of security which meet or exceed applicable law.  No personal information shall be released to any person or entity external to the organization without permission unless there is some legal or necessary rationale.  The BSJ assures its clients and website users that where third party service providers are used which may have access to personal information, that these providers will be bound by the same standards of confidentiality to which the BSJ itself adheres.

Credit Card Fraud

Credit card fraud and misuse is a major concern. If anyone else has access to your credit cards and uses them to pay for any of our goods and services in your name and address, with or without your permission, you are responsible.

The BSJ works against credit card fraud, and uses its best efforts to protect its Customers. The BSJ does not condone credit fraud, but we will however not be liable for any losses suffered by Customers due to credit card misuse or fraud.

Website Delivery Policy

Publications may be delivered electronically, by post or by courier, depending on whether the publication is available in electronic format and/or hardcopy, and in accordance with the customer’s request. Once payment has been authorized the electronic publication(s) ordered will be available for downloading. It is intended that the customer will download the publications immediately, but in any event the publications in question will only be available for downloading for forty-eight (48) hours from the time of payment. If the electronic publication(s) is/are not downloaded within that time, the customer is required to call the BSJ’s customer service department between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., between Monday and Friday, with full details of the order to request reinstatement of the publication(s) for downloading. The time available for downloading in these circumstances will be twenty-four (24) hours, unless otherwise agreed at the time of the request.

The customer is entitled to download one copy of each electronic publication purchased onto a single computer and may only be reproduced for the personal use of the customer and should not be copied or transferred to any third party. Such transfer or copy is a violation of the copyright of the owner or assignee of the publication’s copyright.

Claims for non-delivery of any electronic publication must be made on the business day following the time of payment or the time of the request referred.

All orders for documents in paper format are shipped from the BSJ’s Kingston office, and are dispatched as soon as the order has been processed (within two (2) business days). Delivery will be made either by Express delivery (DHL, tracking available) at the customer’s cost.  The cost for delivery will be dependent on the delivery distance, size and weight of the package and will be calculated and the customer advised at the time of check-out before payment is required.

Cancellation and Refund

Returns for purchase of electronic documents are not permitted. Cancellation and returns of physical items are permissible in accordance with the following guidelines Where a customer wishes to cancel his/her order before receiving it, but within two (2) business days subsequent to the creation of the order, the BSJ will make a full refund in the case where the funds had already been transferred to the BSJ.

If the customer wishes to cancel his/her order before receiving it, but after the period of two (2) business days subsequent to the order creation, the customer will be reimbursed for the cancelled order if the funds were already transferred to the BSJ, less a 15% cancellation fee.  Any Express delivery charges paid will not be refunded. The customer must submit a copy of the e-mail confirmation of the order of the BSJ for reimbursement.

Unwanted goods must be returned unopened, in original packaging, and in fully resaleable condition, with any accompanying tags completely intact. We reserve the right to refuse an exchange or refund if goods are not returned in their original packaging, in a saleable condition or are damaged. Items must be returned within 30 days of receipt, as evidenced by the item’s delivery slip. A 20% restocking fee will be charged in this instance.

Should the order be received by the customer in a damaged condition, the item should be returned to the BSJ, with its original packaging, for a replacement. The BSJ will stand the cost and delivery of this replacement only where it is evident that the damage was caused through the fault or negligence of the BSJ. Items must be returned within 30 days of receipt as evidenced by the item’s delivery slip.

Where the BSJ has filled an order incorrectly, it shall send the correct item to the customer at its own cost, upon the return of the incorrect item to the BSJ. The cost for the return of the incorrect item will be borne by the BSJ.

Occasionally, after confirming an order and delivery time, the BSJ may be unable to fulfill the order immediately due to product availability. Where this occurs, the BSJ will send an email to the customer notifying of the delay in delivery or cancellation of the order. Where the order is cancelled, the full amount will be refunded and charged to the customer’s credit card.

Website Orders & Payments Policy

At the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), we hope to make your shopping experience easy and hassle-free. Once an order is placed an email confirmation, which provides an order summary, is sent within 24 hours. All online orders are processed within two business days. Please note that business days are Monday to Friday excluding all public holidays observed in Jamaica.

The BSJ uses the latest security technology to ensure that your details are safe so that your shopping experience is also secure.

Orders

Placing an Order

When you find a product you wish to purchase, select the quantity, and click the “Add to Cart” button. The product will then be added to your shopping basket. The number of items in your basket can always be seen at the top of every page, underneath ‘Shopping Cart’. If you want to see the items in your basket, click ‘items’.

On your shopping cart page you will be able to checkout by clicking the button at the bottom of your listed item(s).

Once you have checked out the system will confirm that payment has been received and the amount of the payment.  You are encouraged to print or save this page for your records.

If you’ve already registered online with www.bsj.org.jm, simply enter your email address and password. If you want to register and store your details with us for the next time you shop, click ‘Create an account’ and submit the required information. If you don’t want to register and store your details with us, you may conduct  the transaction as a guest.

The BSJ offers various ways for you to pay for your order, please note we can only accept one method of payment per order. When you have submitted your details, tick that you have read, understood and accepted our privacy policy and terms and conditions, and confirm your order.

Registration of Credit Card

You will be required to complete a two part registration process for your credit card to be able to order from our website. The process for registering is as follows:

  1. Select your card billing currency (you will be prompted to select from a list of 17 currencies) and input your personal details and credit card information in the on line form provided.

  2. The website will charge a random non-whole transaction amount between $1 and $5 against your credit card.

  3. You will be sent an email with the link containing instructions to complete the registration process.

  4. The first 6 and last 4 numbers of the credit card number will be stored for the registration verification process.

All cardholder information will be protected in accordance with our privacy policy.

Commonly Asked Questions for Orders & Payments

How do I know you received my order?

When you place an order, we will email you within 24 hours to acknowledge that we have received your order. You can also check that your order has been placed by logging in to 'My Account'.

How do I cancel an order?

You can cancel an order easily by sending the request via our ‘Contact Us’ form, selecting the “Cancel Order” option and including the details – as long as your order is not yet ready to be sent to you.

Can I track my order?

You can track orders online by clicking the 'Track Orders’ link when you log in. The meaning of each status is displayed below:

Status of your total order

  • Confirmed – We have received your order and it is being processed.

  • Complete – Your order is ready and will be sent shortly

  • Dispatched – Your order has been given to the delivery agent for delivery

  • Cancelled - You or we have cancelled your order, or an item within your order. You would have received an email to confirm this and the reason for the cancellation

  • Returns Request – You have requested a return and we are either waiting on the order to be returned to the warehouse, or it is being processed

  • Refund Complete – Your request for a return has been processed and you should see a reflection in your next billing statement.

  • Contact Us - We have found an issue with your order. Please contact us if you have not already heard from us

When will I be charged?

Payment is authorized at the point of purchase and will be settled on the same day.

Will my card details be safe?

Yes (Reason to be stated). Only the first 6 and last 4 digits of the credit card number will be stored. Please see the privacy policy under Terms and Conditions.

Can I change my delivery address?

In order to protect our customers from potential fraud, we are unable to change address details once the order has been submitted.

Why has my card been declined?

There can been several reasons why your card has been refused. For further details please contact the financial institution that issued your card.

My order hasn't arrived. What should I do?

We try to keep information on stock availability up to date, but it is possible that sometimes an item might become unavailable between updates. If this happens, we will try to get more stock and keep you informed.
